Let’s circle back to the previous post, Healing Feedback Loop (12-22-2024), where A’riquea shared a critical pathway for healing ourselves through intuitive wisdom. She describes a three-step process of Information – Question – Answer, which I’d like to explain in more depth.
The first step in the process is Information. This starts with acknowledging that we are experiencing a feeling like anger, fear, or sadness in our body. Difficult feelings are important. They often point to a wound or trauma response from something in our history, or something we have absorbed that doesn’t actually belong to us. Difficult feelings are our ego, tasked with our physical survival, telling us that something is amiss. Unskilled reactions to these feelings often result in ongoing drama for ourselves and/or others.
The second step in the process is Question. Questioning is intellectual. We use our thinking brain to examine “where did this come from?” and “is it mine?” We’re led to believe by psychology that this mental analysis is the answer, when really it’s just a foundation for the question. In order to heal through intuitive wisdom we need to ask broader questions, ones that guide us to an answer we don’t already know. We need to be open to guidance. We can ask questions like “Is there another way of seeing this?” or “Who can help me with this?”
The Answer to our question does not come from the intellect, from rational thinking. Healing answers come by placing ourselves in a context that is greater than intellect or ego, that expands us beyond the five senses, and then listening. The answer comes through our own inner wisdom, our spirit guides, or cosmic consciousness. It comes through intuitive energy vibration.
Let’s look at this process using the example from the last post. I Initially felt fear. That was the Information, it’s what informed my question. I understood the circumstances surrounding it (personal and cultural history). I knew that continuing to deal with the fear on an ego level was draining my psychic energy. I knew that just trying to think differently was not enough. But I didn’t know how to move forward.
I asked, “‘what can I do to limit this?” I opened myself to guidance and listened. The answer came, not from my intellect, but in the form of a conversation with the Teacher A’riquea. She led me through this three-step process, which I then practiced each time I felt the fear. After a week of practice I no longer felt the situational fear and actually regained my power!
Intuition is like a muscle. The more it’s used, the stronger it gets. Practicing intuition is how I have developed my gift: by creating this inner environment of open-ness over and over, listening to the answers and following through on them, and adjusting my thinking and my behaviors over time. It has helped me to have cleaner interactions with myself and others, and to pass the gift on.
Thank you Jennifer! I love how you share your wisdom with us. Much gratitude!
Congrats on your wisdom of knowing what to ask (how can I limit these fear feelings?)
Curious about your process when you write “” I opened myself to guidance and listened. ”
Was that a long process? I appreciate the reminder that it is like building a muscle, we build it with practice.
Thanks for your question, Mary (and great to hear from you!). “I opened myself up to guidance and listened” is the foundation of what I teach in my workshops and encourage through many of these posts. It involves removing our energy from the mouse-wheel of ego function (tasks, worry about the future, regret about the past, inserting our own agenda, accomplishing enlightenment lol). We have to be able to stop DO-ing and experience quiet mind–that is where the voice of our intuition will be heard. It takes practice. The voice is not very loud until we have created a groove from repeated listening and following through.
At the beginning, a good way to find that energy arrangement is to make a 5 day retreat away from ALL responsibilities (including the ubiquitous phone). It typically takes several days to slow down from “civilization” before starting to feel connected to a broader energy field. This kind of get-away is not possible for everyone, and in any case it also requires forming an everyday practice to continue. Some things to try: meditation, Qi Gong or Tai Chi, prayer, free dance, art without judgement, stream of consciousness writing. We have to get out of our thinking brain and into our sensing body. I recommend at least an hour of one of these.
