In my July 9 post, Universal Wisdom discussed the foundation of our concepts of Good and Evil. We were shown that everything in the Universe is formed through the parallel processes of creation and destruction, and that how either of those are viewed is a matter of perspective. https://jennifershoals.com/good-and-evil/

Humans have the added element of free will, which allows us to make choices. These choices affect not only ourselves but also other beings, both human and non-human. How do we understand Good and Evil when free will is involved?

Universal Wisdom:  Everyone is the journey of a Spirit walking the Earth. Free will allows each person to choose what kind of energy they will embody on their journey. Everyone has these opportunities.

Even in positive, creative behavior there is the element of destruction. As children develop and grow, for example, they reduce their dependence on their families. This is as it should be. But the process is one of shift and change. Sometimes it is joyful, sometimes it is painful. This is not right or wrong, good or bad. It just is. How people respond to these changes is a choice.

Life is the layering upon layering upon layering of choice. That is what karma really is—the collection of a lifetime of choosing. Choosing is a learning process. No choice is purely positive or negative. Everyone has the potential to make choices that hurt themselves or others.

What about the choices that seem to be either negatively motivated or else purely evil?

There is very little pure evil in humans. Most of the things that you see as evil are just very bad choices. And many of those choices are made using the limited factors at hand for that particular person: they have made bad choices in the past, they are carrying either the genetic or cultural trauma of past histories, or they have had little or no contact with the Love of God through the environment around them. When people are operating under those circumstances, they are usually doing the best they can.

It all hinges on the Love of God. The Love of God is available to everyone at all times, regardless of the choices they have previously made. The Love of God is the Life Force that creates all living things, not just humans. It is the positive, creative energy of the Universe. When you actually feel the Love of God you are connecting to this vast, expansive energy. This is your Home. It is something to look for and cultivate. It is something to embody and Be.

It is not anyone’s job to decide when someone else is acting within or without this connection. That is their personal journey. When someone is behaving in a way that harms others, it is important to limit this harm. Harsh punishment is not a way to change behavior, it only reinforces it by example. The best you can do, as an individual connected to God energy, is to Love them.

A belief in Evil often leads to actions that are meant to drive the evil out of the person making bad choices. These actions, while intended for good, are often harmful themselves, as they reduce another of God’s creations to only their actions and not their humanity.

Large groups of people living together need to find ways to reduce bad choices and bad behaviors that harm others. But these efforts are often based in judgment and punishment. The better way to address these problems is to look for the root: why are individuals in these situations? How could they be better supported? What needs to change about how the larger group behaves that is causing this? These are complex questions. But it all comes back to humanity, the Love of God, and the connection to life beyond the limits of the five-sense world––focusing on Spirit rather than Ego.

Behaving in this way is also an exercise of free will.
