Throughout my life I’ve heard that humans are “made in the image of God.” I’m sure you’ve heard that, too. The phrase is a reference that can help us appreciate our place in the Universe.
Unfortunately, it has often been misinterpreted to mean that if we’re human, and we’re made in the image of God, then God must be human-like. What follows is a caricature of God as some white guy with a beard up in the clouds who is ready to smite you with lightening bolts for your sins but by-the-way he also loves you very much. Really?? Could God possibly be just one gender or race? Would God have human attributes that mirror ours? Turning God into something that reflects our image is an ego-limited exercise.
God is more inclusive than that. As Universal Wisdom describes: God is a force, a form of energy. God is all of the energies of living combined. Not just human, but all living combined. And not just the present, but all lifetimes and layers combined. God is very powerful in this way.*
God is the energy of Everything. Go, stand in the middle of a forest, or a desert, or at the edge of the ocean. Resonate with the plants and animals and air. Absorb the clouds. Soar with the infinite stars of the night sky. Appreciate the spinning ball of rock and soil that holds you right now. Cradle a new baby, laugh with a child. Feel the vibration of Life Force with your whole being. This is what we are made of––the glory of creation. This is the image of God.
