The rapid dismantling of civil society is significantly affecting my mental and emotional health. I wake up afraid and disturbed in the middle of the night. I think about it all day long. I’ve tried staying away from politics, but I can’t. I’m not really worried about myself. I am concerned for today’s young people, for my children and grandchildren. For all the children and grandchildren. This is exhausting. When I asked for help in dealing with this fatigue I received the following reply.
A’riquea:  Something is happening that is far beyond your ability to sense or comprehend. There is destruction in progress, yes. That is true. It feels especially difficult in the face of the relatively easy life most Americans have been living. That lifestyle was not sustainable. Look at what is happening to the planet. This is in direct relationship to the amount of consumption that you have been enjoying. This consumption is not just a reckless quantity of physical materialism, it is also tied to a shift away from spiritual honoring and stewardship. Indigenous ways knew about the balance required to live a Good Life. Modern urban living ignores that.

You could say that this is a kind of karma. This is the natural consequence of living out of balance. Life is righting itself, it is shifting to re-create balance. Climate change is an expression of this rebalancing. It does not include the feelings of humans in its process. Earth is just doing what it needs to return to Harmony.

Make no mistake, this Harmony it is working towards is not a return to the way it once was, it is a response to long-term changes and will create a new way. This is happening on the human level as well, in human consciousness and human energy patterns. Now is a time of disruption. It feels difficult because the old ways are falling away and there is much instability. The current politics are pointing out some of the things that Americans may have taken for granted. The tearing down of humane support systems, for example, is helping to highlight the importance of community and care for all.

This is a difficult time for empaths, because you are the heart of humanity. You feel the pain of all losses. You understand how things could be better through Love and compassion. It is not in your personal power, however, to change any of these shifts in societal power. Your work is more at ground level, person to person, and that is where you need to focus. When you allow your attention to rest on the macro level, you are not seeing the many many people who are also working on all the levels in between. Recall the millions of people in the streets to protest this month. A major shift is afoot. Like climate, society will not come to rest in a state that resembles its previous arrangement. And, as you know, these are all long term processes.
