Several months ago I attended a community Qi Gong and Tai Chi session with Zhong Xuechao (Master Bing), a 15th generation Wudang Sanfeng Kungfu master from China.* Afterward, I was invited to a small lunch gathering with him and those supporting his American tour. We ate delicious noodle soup and talked about our paths. Master Bing then went to his room to rest.
As he was leaving, he stopped and looked me directly in the eyes. I was stunned to see his eyes––they were pure white with red centers! I know he has brown eyes, I have seen them before. I did not know what to make of this. Was this his true being, nearly-immortal after decades of deep spiritual practice?
Later, at home, I went into meditative state and asked. Here is his answer:
Master Bing: We are always changing. From who we were into who were are becoming. This transformation does not have an outer appearance. It is only seen when you look in the eyes. The eyes show the river of life, flowing endlessly.
When you look at me and see the white eyes, you are seeing the way I am in my transforming form. It is a picture of my movement from body to essence. It is the way my eyes will look when I am no longer in form and only in the spirit. I want to show you this because maybe it can help you to see what transformation we are making.
We are shifting to not-form. This can only happen when the body is strong, no waste of energy. Then it is a house for the True Nature of Oneness. You must be strong. No waste. Only energy moving. You can do this. Remember how you feel after the morning classes. This is how you can feel every day. Alive.

I thought about this many times in the months since it occurred. No Waste means the perfected movements of martial art practice, so one’s energy is clear and strong. No Waste means that I manage my physical life, feeding my body well and reducing stagnant energy in order to be a channel for Life Force movement.
I also think that No Waste can mean no wasted energy of any kind. It means managing my mental life, reducing judgment of myself and others in order to practice Love. No Waste means managing my emotional life, reducing drama and attachment in order to be a channel for compassion. And No Waste means prioritizing my spiritual life, practicing being a Luminous Soul on the Earth plane in every moment.
Thanks Jennifer. It’s fun to think of the NO WASTE concept going beyond food, plastic, paper, etc. But i got stopped by Master Bings statement that in order to shift to non-form our bodies have to be strong. My body is not strong. At least not my physical body. Cancer, osteoporosis, stiffness, all contribute to an inability to do all that I want to do. Although I always feel that my energy is strong. So maybe he means the Whole Body: physical mental energetic spiritual body?
Thanks for your comments, Nancy.
Master Bing was referring to physical manifestation, probably because we had just finished a Qi Gong/Tai Chi practice. Not everyone can practice martial arts for hours a day. And we may have trouble with some of the movements due to illness or injuries.
I think the point is to be aware of our energy presence. To be mindful of how we are moving, how much, why, so that we are not draining energy into poor body postures, too much sitting, not enough exercise, etc.
This naturally applies to all areas of our lives, since they are inter-related.
