I have accepted the Teachers’ directive to promote expanded consciousness. According to them, the reason to do this is to support humans in the next step of spiritual evolution. Many people are stuck in the dense energy of Form. Evolution is asking us to expand, while in our physical form, into the lighter vibration of Essence.

The Teachers describe our current flow of this expanded consciousness like a rabbit trail in the woods. You pretty much have to be looking for it to find it. Once there are more people traveling the trail, however, it will become well worn and more visible. Eventually, it will be like a super highway of communication and others will easily join the flow.

I was thinking of this recently as I read Testimony of Light, An Extraordinary Message of Life After Death, by Helen Greaves (Tarcher/Penguin, 1969). I highly recommend this timeless book. It’s the true story of nuns who participated in an ESP research study, and after one of them dies she continues to pass information about the afterlife back to her companion through channeling.

Frances Banks, who is communicating after her physical death, describes the afterlife as a continuation of the flow of consciousness unfolding. ‘Heaven’ is not the static location described by many religions, but instead the opportunity to continue growing and lightening in consciousness. These opportunities are not limited to the afterlife. We also have them available on the Earth plane. Every moment of every day is an opportunity to open up. In fact, our “work” here is to let the Light in––to invite, magnify, and share it through our physical presence. To experience it. We come into this life with that intention, to shine under our Earthly circumstances. But we often get distracted by the density of Form, by Earth plane drama, and sometimes forget why we are here.

Inviting and spreading the Light is not something we do alone. Everyone is doing their Work, but also doing group work. We belong to practice groups, like families and friends and cultures, that both help and hinder us. According to Banks, we cannot progress faster than the slowest one in our group. Using the highway example, this is like traveling on a single lane roadway. I may be in a hurry to get to my destination, but if I’m stuck behind a full dump truck on a winding road, there isn’t much I can do to go faster. Then it’s best to take a patience pill and enjoy the scenery. Enjoy the now.

I also sometimes feel like I am traveling in a foreign world. Although I am supported, I don’t personally know many humans who are doing the kind of work I’m involved in––receiving transmissions and attempting to share their Light. Banks addresses this also. She says that sometimes group members are separated and born into the wrong camp, doing their work in obscurity. Without a group to carry me I have had to feel my way along on my own, and the path of sharing the Light often seems indirect.

There’s a traffic example of that in the town where I live, which is small enough to have only one stoplight. In the summer, however, it’s flooded with thousands of tourists. Locals joke that it’s “no left turn” season––there is no way to make a left turn because traffic is jammed in both directions. In order to go left you sometimes have to turn right, go up a few blocks to turn left and then go all the way around that block so you can turn right, finally ending up in the direction you first wanted to go.

My spiritual journey might be convoluted and I can’t see very far ahead to where I’m going, but I’m fueled by faith. I trust that I’ll get there eventually. If I don’t make it this time, I have my next life. And the next and the next…..
