I’ve returned from 3 weeks in a different time frame. I was immersed in a Spanish and tribal-based culture which can be summed up in the Spanish proverb “How beautiful it is to do nothing, and then rest afterwards.” It’s not that people don’t work hard or get things done. They just aren’t slaves to the clock. There’s no need to frantically text someone and let them know you’ll be 15 minutes late. It is considered polite to notify someone that you’ll be another 30-45. While I was there I felt unhurried, relaxed and present.
I returned to the States during the most absurd attempt at clock control—the end of Daylight Savings Time. Everyone is out of sorts for weeks. Eating and sleeping schedules are disrupted. Even the sun is getting up and going to bed at the wrong time. It’s ridiculous. And it’s also a perfect example of how malleable Time can be. What exactly is a ‘New York minute’? Did you actually wait ages for your friend to show up?
The Library Man is someone who comes to teach about metaphysics, and he has a lot to say about Time. Chapter 6 in The Next World is a discussion of dimensional evolution. Here are a few excerpts from p. 171-73:
So much of what humans have constructed for themselves involves cognition and linear thinking. Everything is bound up by Time, at the expense of our sensation of Space. True connection occurs when we honor the gift of Time within the content of space….
The first step is to see that Time and Space require a balance of attention. This can be felt by focusing more on Space than on Time. The ultimate present moment is defined by being completely grounded and completely expanded, simultaneously. Next, you must be able to see that there is more than one Time-Space continuum. You practice this on a daily basis by transforming your awareness in different patterns, such as sleep and wakefulness, such as mental concentration and daydreaming. One must practice letting go of Time in order to experience this.
Experience is the way to understanding. Not just mental understanding, but physical as well. The sensations created in a not-Time experience reorder––reorganize––the energy of cells and body systems, of whole-body energy. This is what practicing meditation and other forms of transcendence do––they create a change in energy that reorganizes the Time-Space continuum in your body.
This is how you reconnect with the cosmos––by recreating, in your body, the Time-Space arrangements of the Universe. This is what you experience when you take in the night sky full of stars. What you see before you, expansive and full of Space, is the same as what is within you. This is traveling outward to go inward, just a different direction than the traveling inward to go outward, but it is the same path.
This is what we want humans to be doing. If you focus on the news, you will believe that no one is doing this, because it is not being reported in any way. What is on the news is all of the behavior that is not this. But it is actually occurring everywhere, in the private and personal and communal moments of living. This is the place to focus.
Thank you. Beautiful!
