A recent program on MPR featured a formal debate between two people about whether Near Death Experiences (NDE) are real. The person in favor of their existence had actually had one himself. He described the process as extra-sensory and very beautiful. The person debating against the existence of NDEs went through a process of debunking them using science-based reasoning.
Are NDEs real? Is intuition real? Is channeling real? I think the stumbling block to answering these questions is how we define “real.” If something can only exist when we are able to prove it with science then we are severely limiting our opportunities. Imagine the entire Universe, the whole Everything. We are living on something smaller than a speck in that Everything. Whatever measuring tools we have devised cannot possibly account for everything that exists.
‘Rational’ means intelligent or thinking—it’s something we do with the analytic part of our brain. Using the intellect, we break things down into smaller pieces, compartmentalize them, and look for patterns. ‘Irrational’ means the opposite: not-intelligent or not-thinking. We often put the irrational label on things that don’t make sense to our brain and assign that a negative quality. But letting go of our analytic tendencies is the exact leap we need to make in order to understand anything beyond the five-sense physical world.
Rather than break things down, intuition gathers whole-body energy sensation and places it in a larger context. This expanded context is where we experience deeper connections like beauty, compassion, harmony, and Love.
